Hi, I'm Shakil Ahsan, a Cyber Security Researcher.
I'm Shakil Ahsan, a dedicated Cybersecurity professional with extensive experience in IT-managed services, infrastructure, network, and security management. Proven track record of supporting and enhancing security infrastructures and providing continuous operational support. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills with a commitment to continuous learning and improvement.
With a Master’s degree in Cyber Security from the University of the West of England (UWE) Bristol, where I graduated with distinction, I have cultivated a deep understanding of cybersecurity principles and practices. My educational journey also includes a Bachelor of Science in Electrical & Electronic Engineering from Ahsanullah University of Science & Technology, Dhaka, and a Diploma in Electronics Engineering from Dhaka Polytechnic Institute.
My professional experiences span various roles, from IT consulting and network engineering to teaching electronics and electrical engineering. I have worked on diverse projects, including developing a censorship framework for internet measurement at ESL Global Cybersecurity, Rochester Institute of Technology, and creating a stacked ensemble learning IDS model for SDN-defined VANET during my master’s research.
I have actively contributed to the academic community as a reviewer for the IEEE Symposium on Computers and Communications and the Journal of Cyber Security and Applications. My research publications, which focus on topics like federated learning for intrusion detection and privacy-preserving techniques in software-defined VANETs, underline my commitment to advancing cyber security.
I aim to explore the intersection of AI and cyber security, striving to contribute innovative insights and solutions to this dynamic field. My ultimate goal is to further my career as a researcher and professional in cyber security, leveraging my blend of academic knowledge and practical experience to address emerging challenges and enhance data privacy and security.
Area of Interest
Cyber Security
The protection of computer systems and networks from attack by malicious actors that may result in unauthorized information disclosure.
Data Science
That uses statistics, scientific computing, scientific methods, processes, algorithms, and systems to extrapolate knowledge and insights from structured, and unstructured data.
Machine Learning
A field of inquiry devoted to understanding and building methods that "learn" – methods that leverage data to improve performance on some set of tasks.
Artificial Intelligence
That is able to perform tasks that ordinarily require human intelligence.

RIT CyberVSR'23
I’m thrilled to announce that I have successfully completed the RIT Cybervsr certification! This achievement would not have been possible without the guidance, support, and expertise of my research advisors, Prof. H. B. Acharya, Ph.D. and collaboration with his diligent Ph.D. student Gursimran Singh.
Additionally, under the guidance of Prof. Shanchieh Jay Yang, and with the assistance of his program coordinators and guest speakers, we received thoughtful advice and gained profound insights into our research.
Their unwavering commitment to excellence and innovation has been instrumental in my growth and understanding of the field. A heartfelt thank you to all of them and to everyone else who has supported me along this journey!
